Present and future of art in Australia and Japan

The Australia Japan Art Exchange Symposium will be held on 30 September 2006 at the National Art Center, Tokyo. This symposium is not only for bilateral exchange but also for shared discussion between contemporary art specialists concerning the future of artistic and cultural collaborations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Along with the latest developments from'Rapt! 20 contemporary artists from Japan', the Japan Foundation organised exhibition of new works from young Japanese artists currently underway in Australia, details from the Asia Pacific Triennale and the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale, an instrumental site for the introduction of Australian art in Asia, will capture the present of art exchange between Australia and Japan in this special year.

In addition to the art exhibitions, the symposium will feature talks by artists on art-residencies, curators' creative exchanges and information from the general and internet media in relation to recent and current bilateral art events.
