Australian performing arts productions showcased in Tokyo for 2006 YOE
As a result of the 2003 decision by Prime Minister Howard and Prime Minister Koizumi to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the "Nara Treaty" (the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation 1976) with a series of cultural exchanges between the two countries, the 2006 'Year of Exchange' (YOE) will be focused on bilateral exchange activities. Building on the 2003 "Ancient Future" arts and cultural program and the 2005 World Expo in Aichi prefecture, exchange across a diverse range of activities in the arts, culture, politics, business, education, science and technology, sport and tourism will take place, together with a series of Japanese events held in Australia.
Formed to increase understanding of Australia through the performing arts; dance, music, readings and theatre, Dramatic Australia introduces Australian work in Japanese and collaborations between Australian and Japanese artists. Managing around 10 events, the newly formed organization will help to present new perspectives of the contemporary Australian landscape.
